THIS IS THE STORY OF A DOWN JACKET AS BIG AS THE EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE IT BRINGS WITH IT.
Some dreams are bad. And scary. But others should never end. So why do we need to wake up? Why interrupt our sleep, especially during cold months when we are wrapped up all nice and cosy in our blankets? Some mornings, leaving our beds is absolute torture.
Well, the Chinese-Canadian designer Izzy Du found a way to avoid it. Kind of. With her clothing, she brings the dreamy dimension into reality, creating a collection based on oversized, fluffy volumes. Her pieces are like soft clouds that fit the body harmoniously, embracing every side of it. It seems the human shapes lose their weight like they could rise into the air at any moment, becoming one with the space. It’s not by chance that gravity plays such an important role in Izzy’s creative process.
But there’s more. The styles have a different look and feel in response to light and dark. Just as how we cycle from day to night. Diverse materials are combined in order to create dimensional contrast between solids and voids, between the garments and the negative space they create on your body. Everything starts from the shapes. They dictate the patterns but, simultaneously, patterns are the technical ways to materialize the shapes. It’s a creative circle whose key elements are both print and texture.
Izzy Du finds inspiration in the beauty of nature – like a beautiful sunset – and the emotions it evokes. With her designs she tries to reproduce these feelings in physical form, making them last forever. The most important thing is to stimulate an emotional response. Izzy’s looks are more than clothes or works of art. They have the power to make you escape from reality and, at the same time, be at one with it. Just like a dream.
